New respiratory program provides patients with low dose CT lung scans

BREATHE EASY SOUTH PHILLY

The Methodist Hospital Foundation is helping people in the region with respiratory disorders breathe easier. Proceeds from this year’s Fashion Show fundraiser will benefit the expansion of respiratory services in our South Philadelphia community in conjunction with the Jane and Leonard Korman Respiratory Institute in Philadelphia. Services include lung cancer screenings and a COPD Center of Excellence.

The rate of respiratory related diseases in the U.S. is on the rise—one in four Americans suffers from serious chronic or life threatening respiratory diseases, leading to emergency room visits, diminished quality of life, and death. With the continued support of the Jane and Leonard Korman Family, the Institute brings an extraordinary level of expertise in diagnosing and treating complex respiratory illnesses to our community.

The Korman Respiratory Institute offers a full array of services, including:

  • Lung nodule screening and monitoring to identify if and when intervention is needed, as well as identify early-stage lung cancer or other lung diseases
  • Advanced technologies, such as low-dose CT, endobronchial ultrasound and PET lung scans
  • Diagnostic tests
  • Minimally invasive surgeries
  • Targeted radiation therapies to prevent progression of lung cancer and other lung diseases
  • Access to patient care

The Institute not only provides outstanding patient care, but also conducts pioneering research into better therapies and cures for respiratory conditions.

According to Dennis Delisle, President and CEO of the Methodist Hospital Foundation, the overall goal for fundraising initiatives that support the expansion of respiratory services is to develop clinical programs that meet the needs of the South Philadelphia community.
