Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery

Robotic platform da VinciXi

Jefferson Health has been a leader in minimally invasive surgery since its introduction some 40 years ago; during this time, these techniques have become the standard of care for a number of general surgery procedures — enabling patients to enjoy less scarring, shorter hospital stays, and faster recoveries with lower complication rates.

Today, and for the last decade, surgeons at Jefferson Methodist Hospital have been using the latest robotic technology to perform many advanced abdominal and gastrointestinal procedures including hernia surgery and weight loss surgery. Our physicians are all distinguished in their respective fields and are among the most experienced minimally invasive surgeons in Philadelphia, South Jersey, and Delaware.

At Jefferson Methodist Hospital, patients have access to state-of-the-art video surgical technology and the latest robotic platform (Da Vinci Xi). These tools enable patients to receive common (cholecystectomy, appendectomy, inguinal hernia repair) and complex procedures (gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, colon resections for cancer and benign diseases) in the comfort of a neighborhood community hospital.

Minimally invasive surgery

Our program has been able to grow and receive the recognition of thousands of patients, not only through the engagement of our skilled physicians and the advanced technology available but also thanks to the dedicated nursing staff that assures patients will receive a superior level of care during their stay at Jefferson Methodist Hospital.

How you can help

Proceeds from the 14th Annual Methodist Hospital Foundation Fashion Fundraiser will support the acquisition of laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery simulators and trainers, and support the surgical outcomes research via data coordinator/analyst.

Our faculty

Under the leadership of Francesco Palazzo, MD, FACS, the faculty at Jefferson Methodist Hospital includes board-certified physicians who practice full-time at Jefferson Health, are active members of the teaching faculty at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, and are dedicated to the advancement of minimally invasive surgery through clinical outcomes research. Many of our surgeons completed their residency training at Jefferson Methodist  Hospital and returned to continue to care for the South Philadelphia Community.
